Hi arianagrande,
great question, but I can only answer as an outsider, since I am not at all a biologist, and I barely know what you mean with “primordial soup” theory… Probably you know much more than me about it 😉
I find it a fascinating theory, although in fact it does not explain how life as we know started from simple compounds. It is a nice idea to think that there were all these compounds around, in a mixed soup, and then suddenly some organic compounds were formed, and then more complex ones, and then eventually life came out. but how? what happened? which mechanisms have been responsible of these changes? was it by chance? did something happen to the chemical composition of the atmosphere, or of the water? I do not recall this theory having answers to this, so I think it is a nice framework of interpretation but not at all a complete “theory”. However, I’ll be happy to read the answers by the others, I might learn something that I did not know about this primordial soup!
I don’t know much about it. It seems to me that the origin of life is a topic that we know little about. How exactly did life formed from the chemical components mentioned in the hypothesis? We don’t know and it is one of the most important questions to be answered as the answer will have repercussions to all life forms. If we learn how it forms, will we be able to replicate it on another planet? This is why science is so interesting. It takes you near the limits of human abilities and challenges us in the most difficult way.
As the other scientists mentioned, I also have not researched much the primordial soup. Although I think it is a very interesting theory, it is also a controversial theory. Theories in relation with the origin of life are all controversial in one way or another due to different beliefs. Anything which makes people think, discuss and give their own views is always interesting.
Hi arianagrande, I’m afraid my answer is pretty much the same as the others here, I don’t know enough about the theory you are speaking of to have any solid opinions on it. Sorry about that!
