  3. Dear 6mpettha,

From what I have learnt on this topic through reading and watching documentaries, this is caused by an increase in plasma ram pressure associated with the increase in density and the speed associated with an initial shock.

A useful documentary link is the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJUTUFAWfEY

I hope it helps! Have a good day! 🙂

  4. Hi 6mpettha,
I have to admit I am really not familiar with magnetic storms and magnetohydrodynamics (that is the name for the study of the motion of magnetized fluids).
I followed one course at the University about that, but it was more about energy production, and contained plasma physics.
So, I’ll be watching the documentary that Denise pointed out, and learn this with you!
