Question: How does animal react when earthquakes occurs?

  1. Animals can react to earthquakes in different ways and no one really understands why. They can react differently before an earthquake – some scientists think this is because they are more sensitive to the P waves, those are the waves which arrive first when an earthquake happens.
One of the first records of strange animal reactions before an earthquake is from Greece in 373 BC. Rats, weasels, snakes, and centipedes apparently headed for safety and left their homes several days before a large earthquake occurred.
And because we are still trying to understand things that happen before earthquakes (and whether these changes are actually linked to earthquakes!), its really difficult to say whether animals detect those too!

More experiments and data are needed for working out exactly why animals react the way they do. And the experiments need to simulate exactly what happens during an earthquake too so its an accurate answer.
